There I was last Thursday, standing in the hallway supervising sixth graders during passing period. Is was actually after block 4 - our sixth graders have their special area classes during the last block of the day, so the kids coming back from PE, as you can imagine, are usually smelling pretty.... ripe. And hey, I'm not judging! Good for you for getting a great workout! I have learned to pace around a bit when I get a really sweaty kid coming by - just to avoid the scents wafting through the halls.
Except last Thursday, two boys were walking towards me all giggles and smiles and one said, "Hey Ms. Brezek! Smell my friend!" They were both in their gym uniforms still, so clearly they were coming from some physical activity.
I politely declined, and kind of laughed to myself about this request, thinking that kids are pretty creative in their appeals for attention. Not many more seconds later, I was blessed with a pretty overpowering experience of Axe Body Spray, a staple here in the halls of HMS. Apparently it wasn't armpits they were all about sharing, but "cologne."
Either way, I wasn't interested in participating, but immediately I thought that this request would be the first slice of the challenge!

Happy first day, kiddos! Each day I hope to share some inspiration or something in the way of ideas with you. For today, I want to share the padlet where all students in District 100 are sharing ideas. Check it out - leave an idea if you have one and look around for an idea you can write about, too!
Be sure you leave the permalink for you blog in the comments below so that you can share your posts beyond our school and district! Can't wait to read your posts!

ReplyDeleteThat is hilarious, and having spent two decades in middle school, all-too familiar! I have long thought Axe should be a banned substance.
ReplyDeleteI learned, though, the year that the wrestling mats were stored in my pod, accompanied by wrestling practice after school, that death-by-Axe sometimes is not the worst thing! :)

Ha! "Smell my FRIEND!"
ReplyDeleteThanks for reminding me to appreciate my littler kiddos :)
Thanks for a laugh.
I'm still in middle school! Good luck with your classroom writing! I'm sure it will be an exciting month! (Jennifer Sniadecki)
ReplyDeleteToo funny! I have already warned my kids that no girls actually like Axe!
ReplyDeleteAhhh! I hate when the Axe smell overpowers your entire brain...too much! It's like a fog of "HEY, I'M GROWING UP. SMELL ME!"
ReplyDeleteI'm glad your "surviving" the smells though. :)
