We were wrapping up our guided reading lesson today and one of my students asked me, "Ms. Brezek, how old are you?"
I always love to ask what they think, just so I can see what their perception of age is. Sometimes I get 46. Today I got 26.
"Luis! I love you! I am not 26, but I am so glad you think I'm that young!"
"Well, how old are you then?"
I replied, "I'm actually ten years older than that, I'm 36." His mouth drops open wide and Adrian interjects.
"You're old! Dang! That's how old my mom is..." and he trailed off walking to go meet the class for share time.
As I headed that way too, I just smiled to myself. Because my kids were having fun today reading an article called The Rise of Hitler and taking notes on it. Because they work well together and help each other. And because when one isn't listening, the other students hold them accountable. And, of course, because today I look 26.

Love it! It's so funny to hear their perceptions of age. Amanda and I had our students do a math activity on our age at the beginning of the year. Their guesses were entertaining!
